Cancun Local Information

Currency: The official currency is the Mexican Peso. The rate of exchange against the US dollar fluctuates daily.

Electricity: 110 volts, the same as in the US.

Languages: Spanish, but English is spoken in most areas.  The official language of the Congress is English. 

Climate: Semi-tropical.  Daily averages with a low of 71°F and a high of 84°F (22°C-28°C) during the month of March.

Customs: Declaration forms must be completed upon arrival.

Departure Tax: Departure tax is approximately USD $18. This fee is generally included in ticket prices, be sure to check with your chosen airline to see if this is included.   Passengers under two years of age are exempt from this tax.

Documentation: U.S. citizens need a valid passport, or a birth certificate plus driver’s license or other official photo identification, a visa is not necessary. All other countries should check with their embassy for required documentation.

Water: Cancun’s hotel zone has purified water throughout making it safe for drinking.

US Citizens
Beginning January 01, 2007, U.S. citizens are required to present a valid passport.

Citizens of countries other than US
All other countries should check with their embassy for required documentation.
